Photographer, photographic editor and graphic designer specializing in publishing.

Engaged in photography, especially portrait photography, since 1986.  Photo shoots with the most renowned intellectuals, performers, entrepreneurs and politicians in Mexico.  Has specialized more recently in opera photography.

 

EDUCATION AND COURSES

Undergraduate degree in Graphic Design (1983-87) with a major in editorial design, from the Universidad Iberoamericana; honorable award for thesis.  Taught courses at the same university on Photography, Editorial Design and Advanced Graphic Arts. Specialization diploma from the Universidad Intercontinental in Computer Graphic Design.

Editorial Design course with Swiss typographer André Gürtler at the Universidad la Salle in Mexico City, 1994.  Workshop on “Faces: a commitment to portraiture,” given by Max Kozloff at the Centro de la Imagen in Mexico City, 1996.  Photography workshop given by Sean Kernan at Santa Fe Workshops in the U.S., 1999.  Online course on contemporary art photography with Juan Curto (Spain), 2013.

EXHIBITS

First solo show at the Polyforum Cultural Siqueiros in Mexico City (sponsored by Kodak), 1990; “World of editorial photography” at Hotel Royal Pedregal in Mexico City (sponsored by Canon), 1998.  Group shows at Universidad Iberoamericana, 1983; “San Angelinos at Heart” at Plaza Loreto, Mexico City, 1995;  and “100 years of photographic tradition in Mexico” at the Tecnológico de Monterrey in Mexico City, 2008.

 

CONFERENCES

1995 - Took part in conference entitled “100 years of photographic tradition in Mexico” at McCormick Place, Chicago, during the Annual Convention of the PP of A (Professional Photographers of America).

1997 – Participated in Kodak’s Pro-Passport cultural program “When the future catches up with us,” in Guadalajara.

1998 – Invited by Canon to give the lecture “The world of editorial photography with Canon” in Mexico City.

2013 – Invited to exhibit a portfolio on Fujifilm’s international webpage “X-Photographers” and to give a talk at ComFot 2014, World Trade Center, Mexico City

 

EDITORIAL EXPERIENCE

1987-1994: Art Director, Foto Fórum magazine.

1999-2003: Photography Director, Lifestyle Publications.

Fourth generation member of a long-established family of photographers in Mexico.
